Announcement of launch is not sufficient to resolve this as Yes. The stablecoin needs to be publicly accessible and functional, where users can buy the stablecoin and freely transfer it. Whether the stablecoin is issued legally is immaterial. Closed-door testing, whether internal or with limited public-access, will not be sufficient to resolve the question.

@Jack1 $3.5k volume…

@Mochi yes, but why doesn’t someone just place this bet? There is still enough to have a good size bet

@Jack1 idk, to be clear I am not claiming I know better than these guys, I just think this pm market has higher margin of errors due to its low trading volume. And if you look closely, this question has stricter criteria which requires public accessibility so I believe the true odds for this market is lower. Just my 2c

They are launching a limited public test soon: https://cointelegraph.com/news/uk-fca-names-first-4-firms-to-test-stablecoins

No word on whether it will be USD. But it sounds like the full launch won't be until 2027:

All companies will need to be authorized under the new regime once it goes live in October 2027.

@xjp why would it be pegged to the USD?

@vitamind I didn't say it would be?

@xjp I mean it's a trial with the Bank of England, in lieu of the Reuters article, I think it was pretty obvious it wouldn't have been a USD stablecoin.

@vitamind The press release doesn't mention BoE, it says they got regulatory approval from FCA. Hypothetically that sounds like it could allow them to issue stablecoins in USD or multiple currencies. Not super well informed on this though.
